We use spermatogenesis in the nematode Caenorhabditis elegans to discover novel cell biological phenomena that are evolutionarily conserved. One gene we discovered is related to human genes implicated Alzheimer's disease. Another gene we discovered is involved in membrane biogenesis in humans, which we showed in studies of cultured human cells. Additionally, we analyze a unique collection of mutants that block fertilization.
