In cells, DNA is wrapped around nucleosomes. This association is unfavorable to the process of transcription and must be altered in order for genes to be activated. The goal of our laboratory is to contribute to the understanding of the processes that initiate and maintain gene expression. As a model system, we are using the mechanism of dosage compensation in Drosophila .
