Teaching Philosophy

My teaching philosophy focuses on demystifying science through student engagement and inclusion. Understanding "the why and the how" of the  biological world is fascinating, and my goal is to develop students into confident scientists through guided critical thinking. Science is an amazing place, and in my classroom everyone will be welcomed into its world.

My scientific journey has guided my approach to teaching as well, from bachelor's degrees in chemistry and biochemistry through graduate and post-doctoral training in cellular and molecular physiology. I synthesize topics across biology, chemistry, and physics to help students see the bigger picture and contextualize the content they are learning.

Hands-on laboratory experiences are also critical to the development of a scientist, and guiding these undergraduate research experiences is another passion of mine. I love to share my enthusiasm for molecular and stem cell biology with students to experience for themselves the truly amazing things we can do in biology research and engage in practical applications of the material learned in the classroom.
