Teaching Philosophy

I believe a basic education in biology and science literacy is critical for all students, regardless of their undergraduate concentration. I see my primary role as guiding students to contextualize and critically analyze information. I aim to provide them with skills that will serve them beyond the classroom and will allow them to use available resources to teach themselves new concepts, to evaluate claims, and to scientifically approach problems. In pursuit of this objective, my specific goals are that students develop skills in data interpretation and critical analysis, are empowered with a sense of ownership and autonomy, and consider science within a historical and contemporary social context.
